Ministries: Confirmation
It is our hope that during the years of Confirmation, students will experience and become passionate about living as disciples of Jesus; to know, to celebrate, to share and to fill needs. Our program focuses on
six marks of discipleship: prayer, worship, Bible reading, service inside and outside of the church, relating to others to encourage spiritual growth, and giving.
The following expectations are meant to facilitate this:
1. Wednesday night Confirmation classes: from 6:00-8:00 p.m. (Marks of Discipleship: prayer, Bible reading, service inside and outside the church, relating to others to encourage spiritual growth.)
2. Ten service hours per year: Complete five hours supporting a ministry at SOV (join a team, committee, choir, participate in a drama, be a worship assistant, etc.). The other five hours should come from activities that support the community. Opportunities to serve are available at SOV throughout the year. Track your hours and turn in a "Service Hours Form" by March 31st, 2010.
(Marks of Discipleship: service inside and outside of the church, relating to others to encourage spiritual growth.)
3. Ten worship notes per year: Worship notes
should be taken on the form found in the box in the narthex. Worship notes further your understanding of worship, the Gospel and the sermon. Please make sure your notes are turned back in to the box in the narthex. (Marks of Discipleship: worship, Bible reading).
4. Fall Retreat and Campfirmation: Please plan to attend these annual retreats in November and June each year. Fall Retreat is for youth in 7th-9th grades. Campfirmation is for youth who have just completed 6th-8th grades. See schedule for exact dates. (Marks of Discipleship: prayer, worship, Bible reading, relate to others to encourage spiritual growth.)
5. Mentor Program: Youth are encouraged to select an adult mentor in the congregation to be a positive role model in their lives and to help connect them with older members of the congregation. There are three mentor events each year. Contact Wendy Harman if you need help selecting a mentor. Mentors must be age 19 or older, and the same gender as the student. (Marks of Discipleship: prayer, Bible reading, service inside and outside of the church, relate to others to encourage spiritual growth.)
6. Friday Fun Nights:
Held the 2nd and 4th Fridays monthly from 6:30-9:30 p.m., youth are encouraged to participate and build relationships with other youth in the congregation. (Marks of Discipleship: prayer, relate to others to encourage spiritual growth.)
7. Family
Events: Youth and their families are encouraged to attend family events as scheduled throughout the year. (Marks of Discipleship: prayer, relate to others to encourage spiritual growth.)
8. Giving: Parents are encouraged to help youth become stewards of God's gifts to them. Have youth actively participate with the family offering. (Mark of Discipleship: giving.)
