Worship Focuses on God, Feeds Us Spiritually, and Builds Community.

God does not care about the form of worship, yet because we are created different, we all have different preferences in worship styles. That is why at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church we fully embrace a range of different styles from Traditional Lutheran Communion Liturgy to Contemporary Worship with modern music to Youth-led Worship to Worship outdoors.  Each service is planned to meet the preferences of the diverse people in Phoenix. That is a good thing! Throughout the year the whole community comes together for special Christmas, Easter, and healing services, renewing of marriage vows, first communion for children, baptismal services, and many seasonal worship services and special events.

If you are searching for a Bible-based church that is welcoming to all and seeks to be active in the midst of the city, accept this invitation to come and see if God is leading you to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Click Here for more information on our location.

Wednesday Mid-week, Saturday Evening, and Sunday Morning Worship Styles Explained:

Wednesday Midweek Underground Worship and Prayers: 6:15 p.m.

The Underground is a mid-week, come as you are, Spirit-led worship experience that encourages creativity and learning in a family friendly environment.  The topic is always different from the weekends focus.

  • Worship and Evening Prayer @ 6:15 p.m.
  • Adult Bible Study @ 7:00 p.m.

Saturday Evening Informal Worship: 5:00 p.m.

This service happens in Christ Chapel and is more laid back.  Worshippers are welcomed to come as they are.  You can expect a quieter service with a bible-based message and selections of favorite songs and hymns.

Traditional Lutheran Worship: 8:30 a.m. on Sunday Morning

The Traditional Lutheran Worship Service occurs in a wonderful building that evokes the sacred. Utililizing Lutheran expressions of liturgy centered around the Word of God, we are connected to the many generations of people who have gone before us and praised God using the very same words and music. Favorite hymns, organ, piano, choral music, vocal choirs, and bell choirs help equip all to focus on the Sacred.

Contemporary Modern Worship: 10:30 a.m. on Sunday Morning
During this hour we celebrate the grace of God by inviting all people to express their faith in all our diversity.  You will see a range of people from different backgrounds and different ages. Together as the spirit guides, using ancient forms of worship blended with technology and modern expressions of music, we experience the presence of Jesus in our midst. Through different instruments, interactive contemporary music, and experiencing relevant messages, we invite God to fill us with the Spirit and equip us for the week ahead.

Communion is Offered at All Worship Services on Saturday and Sunday.

You might ask, who may participate?

It doesn’t matter if you are a Lutheran or member-servant at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran church.  It doesn’t matter if you are a member of another church.  It doesn’t matter if you have not been to church in a long time.  All that matters is that you believe that Christ died for you and that in communion we share in God's blessings for life.  All, in trust of God, are welcome to participate in Holy Communion. It is God's gift to give to all people.

Children In Worship are Encouraged and Always Welcomed.

The decision is always up to you as the parent, yet Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church and Pastor David highly encourage children of all ages to be in our worship services.  If you choose to come to worship as a family, grab a childrens's bulletin or worship bag at the entrance.  (Note to parents: It has been documented that kids get more out of worship if you sit in the front where they can see and be less distracted than sitting in the back.  The choice is yours to make.)

There is a cry room space behind glass at each service where you can see and hear worship.

Not that God Cares, but Since We are Asked- How do people dress?

It is flip flops to  fancy ties. Dresses to workout pants. You will see servant-members and visitors who dress up on Sunday and others who dress in a very casual manner.  On Saturday, most people come as they are. Therefore, it is more casual. We enjoy the variety of our diverse community and hope you will as well. Bottom line- be you and enjoy everyone else being who God made them to be!
